Whatever we do we all aspire to get better, or be better. Getting better though takes alot of work, time, and sometimes can be very painful. In order to be a better biker or runner I MUST put in the miles on the road. Those miles could be lonely at times but in the end they pay off because it makes me a better endurance athlete. Sometimes though we don't get the response we were hoping for. Sometimes our body doesn't respond the way we were hoping that it would. Or your coach isn't pleased with the result so he says we should try harder, or do something differently while you are thinking I did as much as I could.
It's hard to hear that sometimes but if we really are seeking honest feedback then it's only meant to make us better. We might not get the advice we want, or the feedback we were hoping for but from the right people it's only meant to make us better. Here's a great quote from Rick Warren...

"Learning from your own mistakes is slow and painful, but learning from other people's mistakes is fast and easy but requires humility and teach-ability."

Getting better is a process and we can learn a lot from others. To learn, you have to humble yourself and recognize we need help!
